Chepstow to Minehead
The Last week and a half has gone really quickly. Have had some good catch ups and eaten at every possible opportunity. Really relieved to have reached the coastal path, shouldn’t be too many roads from here to the end! Time is ticking away.
Enjoyed Bristol, found it to be quite a relaxing city. Spent four days there, was only meant to be three, but I got led astray and ended up out past midnight, in a strange part of town listening to some reggae dub infusion!
From when I left my mate at the hotel spa in Webbington (cheers Sarj), I’ve covered just over 60 miles in three days. I wasn’t happy about some of these miles, as EDF have put a massive diversion in around Hinckley power station, the bastards. While walking around, I stopped and chatted to a walker going in the other direction, and a bloody security van pulled up at the other side of the barbed wire fence, I wished they had asked ‘what are you doing?’, because my response definitely wouldn’t have been ‘well, I’ve got a bomb haven’t I’, they just stared, like they were protecting Roswell.
Most memorable stranger moment of this section was on the way down into Cheddar, ‘oi bruv, how far to the top’ I gave my honest opinion to the street youths (way out of their depth on an off-road track) and then one of his mates went in with ‘look, he’s professional, he’s got a map’ in a tone that suggested he’d caught me out. That did make me laugh, professional walker.
Tomorrow I head into Devon!
